Fall Bible Study on Hymns

“… Sing to the Lord a new song”

Psalm 96:1

Dear Friends, 

As fall approaches it’s time to start our mid-week adult bible studies and dinners (we can’t forget the meals!). I have checked on happenings in the village, and it seems Thursday nights have fewer conflicts.

Our study will be on hymns and how they influence our worship and our faith. Yesterday Susan’s piano piece during the anthem was so inspiring it moved me and I’m sure it inspired you all as our congregational singing had much more energy Sunday! Sadly, I can’t sing, so I’m no help but I do know the words and can whistle.

We will do a four-week study with an option for a fifth week if you all are up to it! Each week we will have the words to the hymn chosen, we will study the words, learn the history of the hymn and its author, connect the hymn to scripture, listen to a recording of the hymn or sing it and then discuss what we learn from this hymn and how it inspires our faith.

We will meet in the fellowship hall on Thursdays at 6:00 for a covered dish dinner followed by the study;

• September 17… Amazing Grace
• September 24… It is Well with My Soul
• October 1… Holy Holy Holy
• October 8… Great is Thy faithfulness
• October 15… Be Thou My Vision (optional)

In addition to the Thursday night studies, we will be doing a congregational Advent Devotion Booklet with daily devotions written by members (both adults and youth), and we will use artwork made by the children.

Finally, if you get a chance today (Tuesday) is Dr. Bonner’s 95th birthday, so give him a call
