Greetings Friends,

It’s that time of the year in church circles when we start thinking about who will take leadership roles in the church for the coming year. Here at New Wappetaw we have a congregational meeting set for October 18th to elect Elders to serve a three-year term, in the class of 2029. We are also looking for a music leader to work with our children’s choir, and we are in the early stages of putting together a job description for a part-time middle school youth director.

However, service in the Presbyterian church doesn’t end at the local church level. Our Presbytery operates by having ministers, elders and church members from our 45 congregations serving on the numerous committees that make up our ministry as a Presbytery. 

Charleston/Atlantic Presbytery has four regular stated meetings each year and in 2026 I have served as Moderator of the Presbytery. At each meeting we send an Elder from our church to be a commissioner, and these elder commissioners vote on recommendations that come from our Presbytery committees as well as resolutions and amendments that we receive from our Synod and from General Assembly.

If you think you may be interested in serving on a presbytery committee, please talk with me asap. Some of these committees meet just three or four times a year. This is a way to meet others from across our presbytery and it’s a way to learn more about our polity and mission that goes beyond our congregation.

• Mom’s Night Out – A Mom’s night out will be held on Oct, 16th.

• Refreshments on the lawn – we will have refreshments on the lawn after the service on Oct. 18th.
• Mission Team Meal for the Citadel will be held on Oct. 19th
• Church Workday – A church workday will be held on Saturday, October 24th.
• Session Meeting – The Elders will have their monthly session meeting on Oct. 26th
• Halloween Candy – Please donate candy for our annual Halloween festivities. Candy will be collected up to Oct. 31^st .
• College Students – Please turn in your students address to Beth Gannon
