Pentecost this Sunday!

“You will receive power when the holy spirit comes on you.”

Acts 1:8

Dear Friends,

This Sunday we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, 50 days after Easter.  The  liturgical color for Pentecost is red so I invite everyone to wear RED this Sunday.

In our reformed tradition we don’t  seem to get excited very often but that doesn’t mean the Holy Spirit is not moving within our  midst. There  are many exciting things happening in the church and in the village. One of the hymns in our hymnal says “there’s a sweet, sweet spirit in this place”  and I believe that describes OUR place. So let me highlight a few things that I am excited about:

  • BIBLE SCHOOL… New Wappetaw  is hosting the community bible school this year July 7-11 and the theme is “Water Missions.” Our co-chairs are Dana Jones, Rachel Michi and Shea Marcinak,  under the direction of our CE chair, Kathy Allen.
  • PAVILION… The session has been talking about our need for more space for fellowship events and we are beginning to research ideas and plans for an outdoor pavilion where we can host covered dish dinners and community events.. More info to come.
  • NEW FOLKS… This Sunday ( June 8 ) we will host a gathering for new folks to hear about the church and learn how they can be a part of our church family. The meeting will take place in the fellowship hall right after worship. I will send out invitations this week
  • WORSHIP…  have you noticed that our sanctuary is full now almost every Sunday? It is exciting to see the children  participate in worship and we are blessed with more and more new folks worshiping with us
  • MISSIONS… During June we will be collecting food items for ECCO ( East Cooper Community Outreach). Pick up your grocery bag this Sunday and return the bags the  following two weeks.
  • NEW WEB SITE… I am especially excited about our new website, which will go live later this week. Thanks to Larissa Lord for the beautiful design and the new logo.

I hope to see you this Sunday as we celebrate Pentecost …and wear red!

Blessings,
Mike
