A Service for Epiphany

“The light shines in the darkness.”

John 1:5

Dear friends,

On the church calendar Epiphany is always January 6th. Epiphany celebrates the manifestation of Jesus to the world, primarily marking the visit of the magi (the three wisemen). Every year I like to plan a service for Epiphany on the Sunday closest to January 6th. We give out gold stars with inspirational words on them and at the end of the service we light candles to “take the light of Christ” out into the world.

I hope each of you will be thinking of ways you can shine a little light during this new year. The session will have a retreat in January to plan the year and already we have some exciting things on the agenda for 2026. Following the congregational meeting in the fall to approve exploring options for building a pavilion on our property, the pavilion committee has been busy taking the first steps and will soon present a plan to the congregation. This outdoor pavilion will enable us to host functions like our covered dish luncheons. We have outgrown our Fellowship Hall and this additional space will be an asset not just to the church but to the entire village.

The session has continued to support the Mothers Morning Out program, as we see the demographics of New Wappetaw changing. Already we have baptisms scheduled for the new year and more young families with children are worshiping with us.

So we are blessed to catch glimpses of light in our midst. May you find light in a sometimes-dark world in 2026.

Blessings,

Mike
