Never Too Old to Learn

“Teach me your way, O lord, and I will walk in your truth…”

Psalm 86:11

Dear Friends,

I guess by now all our children, high schoolers and college students are back in school. Of course folks of all ages are “students” if they are learning in a classroom or from real-life experiences.

As members of Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery, we are blessed to have an annual “learning event” called STEPS, scheduled for the last Saturday in August every year, hosted by Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian. STEPS stands for: studying, teaching, equipping, praying and serving. I think I have attended every STEPS event since I came back to Mt Pleasant in 2007. I have even taught a few classes at STEPS over the years.

This year was special for two reasons: First, our preacher for the day was CeCe Armstrong, a minister in our presbytery and the current co-moderator of our denomination. CeCe is an enthusiastic, and very gifted preacher. Secondly, I was excited that we had 10 folks from New Wappetaw to attend. One of my many goals for our ministry is to get our congregation more involved in the presbytery. Last year New Wappetaw hosted one of the four presbytery meetings and folks are still taking about the delicious shrimp dinners we served.

But as leaders in the local church, we are blessed to have STEPS and other teaching events to learn new things, to worship with folks outside our own local congregation and to do mission on a broad scale beyond our community.

As adults, when we continue to attend special events that teach us new things, we discover not how much we know but how much we DON’T know!

Thank you for the opportunity to teach and to LEARN with you, as we travel this journey of faith together.

It is a joy to be your pastor.

Mike
