Blessing of the Backpacks

“Let the wise listen and add to their learning.”

 Proverbs 1:5

Dear Friends,

This coming Sunday, August 10th, we will recognize our children and students of all ages as we bless their backpacks and pray that all students have a year filled with learning and good experiences. Please be sure to send me the contact info for all our college students so we can communicate with them and send “care packages” during the year.

In the coming months our confirmands will be serving as liturgists during worship. I am grateful to them for their participation in our community Bible school in July, and it is encouraging to see them in worship regularly.

We have started having our children remain in worship on the first Sunday of the month so they can receive communion. I am so grateful for our three regular leaders: Sarah, Drew and Mary who do such a great job teaching “time for children” during worship, and we are blessed to have Sharon, Ashleigh and their helpers lead children’s church. And of course, we enjoy the “Sunshine choir” lead by Kathy and Becky, rehearsing on Tuesdays at 5:00 during the school year. All of this is to say, we take seriously our calling to teach and pass down the faith to the next generation.

In the fall we will offer a four-week Wednesday night Bible study and supper so that even us “non-students” can continue to learn!

Coming Up

*The nominating committee is working now preparing to present a list of nominees for elders in the class of 2028. Please keep them in your prayers. There will be a congregational meeting on Sunday, August 17th.

*STEPS, a Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery event held each year at Mt Pleasant Presbyterian will be on Saturday, August 23rd. We have at least ten of our folks attending. Let me know if you would like to participate by Sunday August 10th, and the church will cover the registration fee.

*Session Meeting after Worship on August 17.

*MOMS morning out program begins here at New Wappetaw in September.
